  1. #1

    Angry grrrr Kies of sheeet!

well, went to try to upgrade, and kies wouldnt work so I downloaded the latest Kies_1.5.1.10074_2_6 update, ran it, and it crashed saying Couldnt Run UnInstaller, yes UNinstaller, and now when I try to load an older version (kies_win.exe) it craps out and wont install and keeps saying the same thing.
even went to control panel and made sure it was uninstalled.
is there some crap lying around that I can delete?

    cheers!

You can try to delete things by yourself.
    - Delete any Samsung Kies folder in Program Files.
    - Check out C:\ProgramData for Samsung Kies related folder.
    - Check out C:\Users\ --Here is your account name-- \AppData\Roaming and delete Samsung Kies related data. You can check LocalLow and Local too.
    - After your manual cleaning, run a registry cleaner software (you can easily find one from google), and delete all the unnecessary registry entries. You may want to back up your registry, which is automatically done or asked you by most registry cleaner softwares.

Oh and, avoid Kies if you are not in love with it

ok, did a reg edit, reinstalled, got latest kies working...

BUT now I cannot connect the phone using Kies, only as a Mass Storage device, which I can read, copy, etc, but Kies says it doesnt like it, so I cant upgrade the firmware... Why can I connect as Mass Storage but not as Kies, when in Kies mode, it just sits there connecting forever doing nothing.
Oh and the phone itself shows the usb connection graphic and says MTP App, but then flashes back to HOME screen for a second then back to MTP APP with the usb graphic... every few seconds... spastic as if its crashing and rebooting real fast...
Any chance something like Launcher Pro or something Ive installed since I last tried Kies is screwing it up? Even though nothing is running?

    lol WTF samsung...

well at least I can still connect and use it as a HD... so, WHERE can I get the latest firmware upgrade and install it WITHOUT Kies?

    Cheers!

Launcherpro is incompatible with Kies. Switch over to the stock launcher (touchwiz) for connecting to Kies.
Lost count of the amount of times I've said that, should have a permanent copy on my clipboard XD

thanks but as I said, i simply have in installed but am not using it...nor using anything at all, fresh bootup of phone, connecting to PC, Kies just churns and churns...says connecting to device but never does.. and again if i try as a Mass Storage, it connects, but Kies doesnt allow me to do anything, I can only copy paste with windows explorer, etc...

    yay.
so is there any way to download the latest firmware upgrade and install it without having to root, etc?

    cheers!

Called Support, was emailed this :

Please see the instructions below on how to install your Galaxy S and use it with Samsung Kies.

    1. Completely remove the current version of the Kies software and drivers from the pc. (Drivers will need to be removed manually).
    2. Restart PC.
    3. On the handset go to the Android market place and download a task manager application. Use this to end all running tasks before connection. (you said that you have downloaded the Advance Task Killer which should be adequate)
    4. Install Samsung Kies.
    5. On the handset select debugging mode. Menu >> settings >> applications >> development >> debugging mode.
    6. Then end all applications and connect the phone to PC.
    7. Allow the drivers to install, indicated at bottom right of pc screen.
    8. Once drivers have installed Kies will indicate this by saying that the handset is not supported in debugging mode.
    9. Disconnect handset and reconnect in the Kies mode.

Haven't tried it yet, but hope it works...

BTW - Also was told to NOT DOWNLOAD LATEST KIES UPDATE as it doesnt work right, some crap about samsung servers, etc...
BUT why the "£%"!!^!£* do they have it on their website for download then?!
    grrr...

I am seriously getting expletive deleted.
None of that crap worked, Kies still wont find the godamn phone, and now doesnt even TRY to connect... wont find it all unless Mass Storage now.
I am not a newb, can do medium tech tasks, and have done nothing but to make anything go wrong.
    It worked fine.
Then I upgraded Kies... and it went to expletive deleted.
Ive uninstalled it, ive re installed 3 different versions on 2 computers.
Is there a SAFE MODE I can turn the phone on, so like its factory reset without losing everything, just to do a temp test?

Im trying to break it down. Obviously the USB cable is fine because I can connect as Mass Storage.
    Ive removed Launcher Pro.
Nothing is running on the phone.
Again I think this DIDNT happen before, but now it runs MTP App, shows usb graphic, but then after a few seconds animates a quick zoom back to the Home screen, then flash back to MTP, repeat every few seconds.. as if somethings gone wrong with MTP... can I reinstall that?

Can someone confirm which version of Kies they use?
Ive tried 1.5.1.10074_2 which I believe is the one that worked before.
Also tried Kies_1.5.1.10074_2_6 and a file from the korean samsung support page called -
    Samsung KiesSetup.exe

    Cheers!
