Camera Folder showing as a music folder

This one is driving me crazy. When I hook up my phone to my PC and view the Camera folder, it doesn't show the picture thumbnails. It is showing details as if it is a music folder such as artist, album etc. I go in to the properties of the folder and there is no where to change it to a Pictures folder. I can do this under the "Customize" folder when I click on properties for folders on my PC but not the phone. This makes it hard to decide which pictures to transfer to my PC without seeing a thumbnail. Please help!

    Thanks!
    Victoria

Never had this problem. You should be able to Right Click on the folder when on the Pc and change the type of folder.

Not sure if this has anything to do with the file association on the PC and which program is used to open your media.

In the end it's not the end of the world, you should be able to change how you view the folder anyway...details, thumbnail or filmstrip etc.

I'm guessing its a PC file association issue too. What programme is set to default open pictures on your PC?
SGS 3 i9300 SIM Free O2 UK. Stock.
SGS 3 i9305 SIM Free Dev Tool. Galaxy Project ROM.

.jpg files are associated with Microsoft Picture Manager. I changed it to Picaso and no difference. The only thing that changes is that the icon for the pictures change from the default graphic for Picaso. I can't get the actual picture to show. I transferred the files to my PC and then I can see the picture thumbnails. I tried every folder on the phone and I do not have the option to change the folder type. I think that it isn't showing the picture thumbnail because it thinks it is a music folder. Could there be some admin setting on the phone? I am at a loss. Thanks for your ideas.

By the way, I never had this problem with my Droid X. I just got the Galaxy a few weeks ago.

I'm not sure if it's the same as you are seeing but when viewing the phone's photo folder I don't get thumbnails either, just a generic jpg icon.

I would agree it's a pain if you transfer them that way but I do it through automatically uploading to Dropbox. On Dropbox I can see the proper thumbnails.

Changing folder type only works if you transfer the whole lot to your PC. You can't change the folder types on the SIII.

Yes that is what I see also. It is annoying when you only want to transfer a couple of pictures and can't see which ones easily. Is your Camera folder set as a music folder also (headers with album, artist, etc)? I believe that is the problem but can't change it.

With regards to the problem that when viewing files as thumbnails from the device, via a PC, the thumbnails appear black. This also happens to me and I'm guessing everyone at least with an S3.

I doubt there is a solution to the problem, probably down to the file system used with Android?

You could rename photos from the Phone itself....or at least rename the ones that you want to move?

Answer: A quick view on the net and the answer was obvious...to me at least.

The SGS 3 does not support being mounted as a USB Mass Storage device. You'll notice that when connected to a PC a USB Storage device usually appears a mapped drive, usually E:\, F:\ etc. The SGS 3 when connected is mounted as MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), such as a digital camera...or something.
