How to actually silence my S II?

Since my first post seemed to disappear, I am posting this a second time.

I can silence my phone, turn the volume down, and select vibrate. I still get voice announcements loud and clear. How do I turn it off? Sometimes it is not desirable to hear "ONE NEW EMAIL" in church or at the office. No matter what preference I select to silence the phone, these voice alerts come through.

Sounds like you have driving mode turned on. To turn it of go to menu>settings>language and input>text-to-speech and then take the tick out of driving mode. This is for ICS and may well be different if you phone has GB

That was It! Thank you, Richard, very much. It's hard to believe that this Driving Mode has priority over Volume and Silent mode. It's also hard to believe that the software programers stuck this option in such an obscure location. I recall back in GingerBread, this mode was a function of my bluetooth app. In ICS it was integrated into the system so that my bluetooth app no longer needed a separate program. Thank you Richard!

Your welcome. You can add the widget for driving mode to one of you home screens. It has 3 different controls, driving mode, voice command and voice talk. Makes it very easy to enable and disable all of them.
