    How to enter unlock code

i have recently changed from O2 to three and taken my number with me.
I have requested, and received an unlock code for my S2, which I plan to sell, however, the instructions say:
"Insert another network active sim in the handset.
This should ask for a code.
Input 8 digit unlock code when requested."
But when I try another active sim, (I have tried both Three and Orange), it does not ask for a code, can anyone help?

Sounds like your phone is already unlocked. Does the Orange and Three sim work? if you type *#7465625# you should get your lock status returned.

three does work, but orange doesn't.
Inputting that code gives me a list, all of which are off, so I guess it is, however it still comes up with the O2 logo when restarted.

Unlocking doesn't debrand the phone. It will have O2 software on it unless you reflash with open software. If all lists say OFF then the phone is unlocked.

Still don't understand why it won't work with the orange sim though, could it be because the phone was on a contract and the new sim is PAYG?

When you say 'it doesn't work' , with the Orange sim in are you getting a signal on your phone?
Try going to Settings > Wireless and networks > Mobile networks > Network operators and see if Orange provide a signal.
Providing you have a signal, you will shortly get Orange sending you their settings, so don't leave the sim in too long.

Yeah, I have a signal, just says, "not registered on network", however in the list of networks, it shows: T-mobile, O2, 3 and vodafone, but not orange

Orange now shows up as EE but I assume you don't have that either
