Can't change apps in Apps Draw.

    Hi,

Today I received my Galaxy S III 4G from Telstra and have thus far been unable to change or rearrange any of the icons in the Apps Draw. The usual hold-and-drag doesn't work and I can't find a way to change them in the settings menu so I'm stuck with the default Phone, Contacts, Messaging, Internet and Apps in that exact order.

I know it is possible to change them as I've seen it done on a friend's release day GT-I9300. My only thought as to why I can't is that mine is a GT-I9305 and is thus running 4.1.1 instead of 4.0.4. Seems a strange thing to leave out of an OS update if that is the case.

    Any thoughts?

When in the App Draw press Menu > View Type > Customisable Grid > Menu (again) > Edit

You can only change the position of apps when the App Draw is in the 'Customise Grid' view.

    Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I may have gotten the term App Draw mixed up with App Dock. I want to re-order and change the apps displayed at the bottom of the home screen.

In this case, Phone, Contacts, Messaging, Internet and Apps.

I'm running an GTi9300 on 4.1.1 and can move apps to the app drawer, so it is not the firmware that is stopping you. Could be a modification in your firmware.
If you want to move apps to the app drawer, take a look at an alternative launcher from the Play Store. Go launcher allows this function and seem to remember that Nova does too.

Not sure how my device's firmware could be in any way modified, it is literally brand new out of the box. I was hoping to avoid putting a separate launcher on the phone as I try to keep my devices as lean as possible. If worst comes to worse though, Trebuchet has served me quite well in Cyanogenmod.

The software would be modified if the phone has network branded software on it. Therefore the network may have restricted some menu options etc.

    Try this.

While on home screen (Not in app menu), press and hold the app you want in the dock and drag it there. It will replace one of the other icons apart from the app draw icon. This is also the way to change the arrangement of the icons in the dock

Edit. Mite as well ignore this post. Don't read while tired

Open the app drawer. Press Menu > Edit, then drag icons you don't want off the dock and drag the ones you want on to it. You can't move the apps icon from the dock as that's fixed.

after pressing Menu > Edit, the dock isn't visible. I've tried dragging other icons but there is no dock visible to drop them onto

Same problem. As soon as you start dragging an icon off the home screen, the dock disappears, so there is no way to drop it on the dock

Would love to be able to change these icons. Thanks

Drop the icon to the home screen first, then drag it to the dock?
