    Unhappy Wi-Fi Connection Problem

    Hi,

Having a problem connecting to wifi hoping someone might have a few ideas.

It's a Samsung Galaxy S, firmware 2.3.3, Gingerbread.XWJVP. I recently carried out a factory reset, but the problem was there prior to this.

I press the Wi-Fi icon in the drop down, this remains green as if to say 'on'. I go in to Settings/Wireless and Network/Wi-Fi settings to ensure the Wi-Fi is actually on, the box is checked. But the blue text below Wi-Fi is saying "Scanning... Connecting... Disconnected" it just keeps looping like this

My router is a Netgear R6300 which I've set up to allow all devices I use in my home to have access. The security option is set at WPA2-PSK[AES]. All other devices that I do use do not have any issues connecting, i.e. Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, printer, laptops, xbox's, etc.

    PLEASE Help

    Try rebooting the router.

Yep, rebooted router, no difference, as I said, all other devices work perfectly with router.
I did however notice, that in the notification bar that there is no network icon of any kind next to the signal strength, but network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA(auto mode), if this helps any.

Network icon will go off when wifi is connected. The loop you are getting is because the phone can't obtain an IP address over the wifi network. It has to be a security issue (I assume you can connect to other wifi networks on your phone?). Try temp changing the router security to WEP.

    Hi again, got side-tracked.

I get that the network icon goes off when wifi connected, but it's not there at all, wifi disconnected.
I actually got the galaxy s connected by using my galaxy s3 as a hot-spot tethering device, if that counts as other wifi networks. Would this mean that there is potentially a problem between the router and the galaxy s even though it's on the router allow list.
