When in the office I am connected to the wifi, the phone is used mainly for the e-mails, I started connecting it to the wifi at work because it was using all my mobile data (not sure what I was doing when I first got the phone because it was a lot higher). The phone doesn't show me using that much but it has to be if I was firstly charged for using a lot and secondly for the internet usage to be higher at work when I'm connected. I know the simple reason you may come up with is to stop connecting but I want to understand why it's doing this and if anyone else has the same problem. I am now currently paying for a booster every month for the internet that I didn't think I originally needed. My previous phones I have never gone near my mobile data limit.

    Hello Aimzy,

How much data allowance do you have? Also how much is the bolt-on/booster?

If you are concerned with high data usage then:

    1. Download the suggested app before = Google Play - Onavo Count

    2. The main cause of high data usage is most likely to be Synced emails, could be a rogue app that you may have downloaded but I think you mentioned that you haven't done much with the phone.

If you go to Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync >
You will find all accounts that you have synced on your phone. If you further tap on an account you can see and change which items of data are being synced. Stopping the items you don't wish to sync will reduce your data usage.

Also do you have any social accounts synced with the phone?

or there is always the possibility that somehow via tethering you have set your phone up to become a search engine for other pohones and other mobilies are using your data, ....

When I first had the phone i had 500mb because I wasn't using anywhere near that when I had the blackberry but I'm now paying a £5 booster for unlimited.

    1. Have downloaded this app going to give it a try now. Is this just for downloading apps?

    2. As far as I know no rogue app has been downloaded I haven't really downloaded anything on the phone.

I have gone into the Accounts & Sync and I only have now one e-mail account and with the Email Check Frequency set to every 4 hours and a google account but that's just syncing my work calender no e-mails contacts or anything. When installed I didn't go for the google+ option or back up option.

I don't have any social apps on the phone i.e. no twitter or facebook, I do have loads of apps that came with the phone and half of them i don't know what they do, are these safe to delete?

Not necessarily syncing your accounts but using your phone internet wirelessly, when at work turn off bluetooth, and data roaming see if that makes a difference.
The app monitors internet usage so it may give you a clue. If you have no success call samsung because if you are not using your data someone else is at your expence..P

Under Menu > Settings > Wireless & Network.

I doubt you have but it may be worth a check.

No I just checked so I am sure that hasn't happened. I will try everything else everyone has suggested and see whether it starts to improve.

I'll let you know how I get on. Thank you everyone for your help!!

ps. FYI your BB used less data because the BB servers compress data, they don't use much at all in comparison to android.......
