    Just updated my phone

After being led to believe JW4 (value pack) was going to be the last ever update for the samsung galaxy s, I stopped bothering to check kies every now and then for new updates.

I have been having problems with the screen on my phone and thought it could be a software issue, so I decided to open kies this afternoon to see if there was any updates. Lo-and-behold, there was a new update (new for me, anyway..don't know how long it's been available through kies?). The update was, I think, JW5.

After updating my phone I am unable to see what has changed with this new update, due to my screen going crazy every 5 seconds or so. I have searched high and low regarding JW5 (what's new etc), but I didn't really find anything.

I was really surprised that there was no mention of this update on here? Is there any cool new features etc with this update?, like there was with JW4? Thanks.

Is you phones screen still doing strange things, if so then you will need to do a wipe data/factory reset to sort it out, recommended after any firmware update. It's probably a conflict between the old and the new OS.

Well, I sent my phone off on tuesday to be repaired, and I never did get to check the new firmware out. One of you guys must have updated your phone with it too? Is there any new features etc? The firmware was i9000XXJW4 2.3.6 - XXJW4 OXAJW5 XXJW4.

Sorry Richard, I think you misunderstood my question. My screen was going all crazy. I would wake my phone in the morning from idle mode, look through some texts and check some websites out, and after about 10 minutes or so, the screen would just go all funny and crash. I would then have to press the off button at the side to get it to go off (not completely off, just the screen), then press the home key to get it back on again. It would come back on and be ok for a few seconds, then it would go crazy and lock up again. I thought (or hoped) it could be a software problem, so I checked kies for any updates. There was an update, and I was able to install the update on my phone. Unfortunately, the update didn't solve the screen problem. But that really wasn't the reason I created this thread. As I mentioned in a earlier post, I was under the impression the samsung galaxy s wasn't going to recieve any more updates after JW4 (value pack), so I stopped bothering to check kies now and then, like I used to. When there was an update, and it was JW5, I was pretty shocked (and excited at the thought of some cool new features etc) I just wanted to know if JW5 did come with any cool new stuff like there was with JW4. Obviously, I couldn't find out for myself because my phone was broken, and that's why I asked you guys (most of whom probably downloaded the update via kies and could tell me about it). Oh, and I did do a factory reset, but it didn't fix the problem. By the way, is there any difference between the factory reset in the phone settings, and the factory reset in recovery mode, or are they essentially the same? Thanks.

Essentially the same. I prefer to do it via recovery mode, there's more options, clear cache being one. I can't help with what's new in JW5 as I know longer have the S. It could be an update to fix some bugs, but in your case it looks as though it hasn't done that.

You could try flashing a different firmware using odin and firmware from sammobile.com there's lots of guides on this forum and on immobile to help you with that.

EDIT: Just had a look over at sammobile.com and it would appear that JW4 is the latest firmware for the S, available via kies.

I want to update my android from 2.1 to 2.3, but I want to know if the same roms for GT-i9000 will work on my GT-i9000T?

Some sources say yes, other say no.

Take it you wanted it so badly that you had to post the problem 7 times?
