    Phone broke down after update

Hi, my samsung galaxy s2 broke down on me a week ago. How this happened was that I saw the ota update being available for downloading so I proceeded to download the update. Now, when it got the update and it automatically started to install, The phones battery died (inthe middle of the installation). when i charged it up and turned it on an error message comes up after the samsung logo saying the package installer got an error and now wont let me use the phone at all ( it freezes up after the message). I tried restarting it but the same thing happened. the phone is now unusable. i visited a phone stor asking if they could repair it but no, they couldnt. what to do? send the phone in/swap it out?
    thanks

Try pulling the battery out while it's powered on, leave it out for a few minuets and then put back in the phone and then power the phone on and see if that has made any difference.
If it hasn't, you can try a wipe data/factory reset from recovery mode. If you need help with getting into recovery mode let us know.

You can reflash the update with Odin if the factory reset doesn't work....

    +1 for the odin method.

First time I flashed new firmware was with an old hack to force Kies to do the update on the SGS, it stopped half-way through and my phone wouldn't respond.

So I updated the firmware with odin and have never looked back.

That was Dec 2010 and it was this forum that helped me through it, so I joined in January to help others as I was helped. Unfortunately I think I've been more of a hindrance so far.
I could be wrong, I usually am. (Because it's only a phone)

Appreciate the quick replys guys, thanks!
ok so first off I just want to add that this phone has not been flashed.
one of my mates gave me one of these usb jig thingys (he said it was like doing the odin thing,I know almost nothing about phones .)and said it would wipe and reset the phone to factory mode. well so I tried it out. Turns out it just made it worse lol. The usb jig did its thing for around 10-15min. and then went black. The phone is now apparently unchargeable and as I connect the charger the only thing that happens is that the charging circle image blinks up for a sec or 2 and then the screen goes black<--- endless loop when connected to the charger. so...anything else i could try? I cant even turn it on in factory reset mode

Wipe data/factory reset is done like this:

    With phone powered OFF.
Press and hold the following keys: Volume up + home + power. Keep them all pressed until you see the Samsung Galaxy S II boot screen and then release just the power key.
When the phone has booted into recovery mode(blue text at the top)release the other keys.
Look for wipe data/factory reset, use the volume up & down keys to navigate to it, use the power key to select and ok the selection.
Look for wipe dalvik cache and again use the volume up & down keys to navigate to it and the power key to select it and ok the selection.
Look for go back and then reboot device.

If this doesn't solve your problems then it's time to flash new firmware using odin, but first try the above and let us know the out come.

I think its best you leave it alone before you break it anymore
All the jig should do is put the phone into download mode, nothing else!! Whatever else it did is very very bad....
Try taking the battery out for 10 mins then see if it will boot up again and try to get into recovery mode (Vol up + Home + Power). Then try a factory reset/data wipe again.
If still no good you need Odin but come back before you do anything else !!!!

Edit: Sorry doubled up over RJ's post, but I think the message is the same

Can you go into download mode?
    Press and hold:
Volume down + Home Button + Power button until in warning screen
Volume up to android download screen.

If so you can download and install firmware with Odin.
