    Smart phone dummy

Please help me, I cannot connect my Samsung Gal S (brand new 2 months) to my computer to download pictures on my phone to computer and cannot upload music to my phone. Computer does not recognize device when i plug into a USB port. I have read several forum questions and answers but I still cannot figure this out.

Start off with downloading Samsung Kies (this will give you the required drivers). You can then choose to use either Kies or File Explorer in windows to transfer files.

Thank you I will try this again. I have already downloaded Kies once and nothing happened. I sent ane-mail to Sansung Support and they responded that Kies was only for S2 and later phones.

I have downloaded Kies again and still cannot connect via USB to phone. The Kies connection troubleshooter does not help. I think the problem is more basic in my computer not recognizing the USB port I am connecting to.

Kies is definately for the Galaxy S.
When you connect to your computer does your phone do anything? It should register that USB is connected?
If not then I would suggest a PC issue. Try plugging something else into your USB and see if it registers.

Ok good call on USB connection, I tried another port and cable and was able to connect to the Microsoft Media Player. I tried connecting to Kies but received the message "Device not supported by Kies 2.0, make sure device is supported and try again. Now what?

What you are looking for are the phone usb drivers.
If Kies is playing up (as it can do) then try downloading drivers directly from here :

That message usually means you have the latest firmware on your phone(if message appears in the firmware section). This should still allow you to copy files and back up etc.
To help with the driver installation I would go into settings in Kies and untick "run Kies automatically when phone is connected".
Then close Kies and connect phone to PC and wait, maybe 5 mins or more, for the drivers to load.
What OS is on your PC?
