No USB mass storage notification anymore

Hi people.

I have been dragging and dropping files to my OSX 10.6.8 MacBook happily for a while now, but recently my USB connection has failed to work and Kies keeps dropping out. I used to be able to simply plug the USB cable in, click on the drop-down notification and go from there.

However, I now have no drop-down (and yes, I have tried a bunch of different cables), and when I go into USB utilities and go through the rigmarole there, I get stuck in an endless loop where it tells me to plug in the cable, and then tells me the cable is plugged in, and I have to "unplug to connect" - it's all very strange.

I have tried it with debugging both on and off and that does not seem to make any difference.

At the same time, Kies now is very sticky, and refuses to find the folders I want. I also have Airdroid, which also is doing silly things and will load one file and no others.

Has something happened to my S2 ? Is there an easy step to getting things back on track ? I know it is possible to transfer data of all sorts to the SD card with a reader, but that seems to defeat the purpose of everything - it's also a chore and not easy to do in a hurry.

Any help would be much appreciated. I Have looked through the FAQ and previous posts but can't seem to find anything with this exact problem.

If its on your S2, you've posted in the wrong section, as this is the note section

Have you just updated to ICS, as they have removed USB mass storage from it If your on GB still,

Have you tried restarting everything.

Ooops ! Yep, posted this in the wrong place, but thanx for the reply anyway !

Have not updated to anything. Have re-started everything, several times.

What is GB ?

I'll go and post this in the right place.......too.

GB = GingerBread OS.
ICS = Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

Yep, I'm still on GB. Do I need to do something about it ?
