4.04 UPGRADE HELL... battery probs, charging etc

    Hi people

ever since the 4.04 update i have been having the following issues
    i use a mac...

*i cannot charge phone from mains or usb (forced to charge extra batteries externally and swap out)
*phone cannot switch off if charger is in (it restarts)
    *battery overheats frequently
    *battery drains within hours
*when i restart phone with power cord in...it shows charging but actually isnt...if cord is taken out the "charging" icon remains
after reading forums i see how easy it is to lose topic so ill state...im sure its not a battery issue..its the phone and only started after the upgrade

is there any news from samsung about this issue...
i don't know how to back up data (on mac) if my phone can't be recognized by mac via usb so how do i do a hard rest

my phone is not "rooted" (or whatever that means)
    thanks a lot

If it happened after the update then try a factory reset with clear cache from recovery.
You have some conflicting settings and a reset should clear them out.

Backup first with Kies or your preferred method.
    Enter Recovery Mode by:
Press and hold Volume up + Home Button + Power button until in blue recovery screen.
Use volume to select Clear Cache and Power to action.
Now do same for Clear data/factory reset.

I have an Apple Mac and I use an android app such as my backup or super backup which stores your data on a cloud. I had a problem with my battery and it overheating causing the phone to switch off. I did a factory reset and removed Juicedefender which seems to have resolved that problem. Have you checked out the thread I started Problems encountered since upgrading 4.0.4 they may be a solution on there. Good luck mate I know how you feel these upgrades just put you off Samsung products. I am considering moving over to the iphone. Upgrades should not be released until they are bug free.

4.04 is the least buggy release yet. It's not the software that's the issue, it's Kies !!!
If you install software with Odin you will not have any issues.....

    Hi,

Yesterday my sgsII told me an update was available. I accepted and after installaion I see it now has 4.0.4.

Fist I saw it had lost several of my email accounts with just 3 out of 7 left.

Then worse; it started hanging completely after anything from a few minutes to half an hour. Holding the on/off button in for several seconds brings it round to restart.

It's pretty much unusable as it is; so a factory reset will be my next step, but that's a real nuisance.

You should do a factory reset after every upgrade. Best way is to flash with Odin and reset before and after flashing. Email accounts may have to be input manually as 4.04 only supports Push on Gmail or exchange accounts.

It seems to be more stable now after a factory reset; coming up to 40 minutes and no crash.

The email setup is a bit silly. The "Push" option is ticked by default and tere is no sign of manual setup; so entering my account details results in repeaed failures.

Only when you untick the "Push" option does a button "Manual setup" appear. I found it by accident before reading the above comments.

It also failed repeatedly to connect to my WPA/WPA2 WiFi. I connected to a WEP one I have in parallel with no trouble; it did some more syncing with Google; and then it did manage to connect to the WPA WiFi.

    Update:

so i did the factory reset....and i am still having the problem which is... the phone is not charging (regardless of what battery is in it)....when i plug it in nothing happens.
if i restart with the power attached (which by the way does "not" shut down...it just restarts if power attached) it starts up with the charging icon, but its not actually doing anything and if i remove the power connection....the charging icon remains

any other advice will be appreciated

im past a warranty so cannot have it swapped...and like the previous response...this is my last samsung product first of all the updates took so long to get to my brand thento spend so much money on a phone that cannot even be charged is ridiculous
