How to do a FULL unlock for international use?

Sorry if this is a silly question - my brother has an S2 with out-of-the-box, custom ROM, not ever flashed or rooted, etc. He has just been told he has to work in Spain for the forseeable futre but wants to come home at weekends. He also wants to keep his S2.

If he roots and flashes his phone, will he be able to buy a Spanish SIM from any Spanish network for use in Spain, and just replace it with his own SIM when he comes back here? In other words, does a root and flash of a phone make it fully internationally unlocked so that he doesn't get any extra charges from either Spanish or UK networks?

    Thanks

No S2's come out of the box with a custom ROM !!!
Type *#7465625# into the dialler. If anything on the list says "yes" it is locked to a network and will have to be unlocked by the network or a phone shop. If they are all "No" just put any SIM in you like anywhere in the world......

If you need to unlock then you can do it for free with an app from the Play Store. You will have to root first.

Hi first be clear about what is mean by rooting a phone and flashing a phone

Rooting a phone : rooting a phone means gaining access to administrator account.
Flashing a phone : Flash means connecting to the data port on the phone and reprogramming the on board chip which contains the software that controls the phone.
Unlocking phone : Unlocking phone is nothing but removing the network lock in your phone so that it can be used with all network sim in it .

So by flashing or rooting your phone it cant be used internationally .To use it abroad you must unlock your phone from network lock .To unlock it visit Theunlockspot.com here they ask you the network name to which your mobile is locked and the IMEI number of your mobile .Then at last they render you code to unlock your mobile.

In order to Unlock the phone you need to root the phone first. Rooting the phone is the equivalent of admin rights on a PC.

Here's a guide to back up your phone, root and unlock it (4 different ways to unlock) -----> Rough Backup Guide
