    S2 USB Storage Free Space

    Hi all

I use my s2 as a storage device to transfer files between home and work but the free space on my usb storage seems to be lower than it should be.

The total space says 11.50gb and between pictures, audio and downloads etc its says i am using 3.19gb but it lists my free space at 3.67gb so where is the missing 4.64gb?

If i recall i used to have over 6gb of free space so im not sure why this has dropped. I havent added any more files since then because once ive transfered my files between home and work i delete them.

I would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to what i can do? i havent formatted the usb storage yet because im saving that as a last resort because i can see that causing a lot of hassle.

I tryed to search the forum for answers and couldnt find anything so i appologise if this question has already been asked

    Regards

    Andrew

Probably cache files. The likes of Chrome take up huge amounts of space and additional apps also eat into this storage. You can clear cache from the recovery menu without having to format the storage (Vol Up + Home + Power).

Thank you for the suggestion Rich, I went into the recorvery menu and selected " wipe cache partition" unfortunately this didnt work.

Ive just looked at the memory through the pc and it says used space 7.83gb and free space 3.66gb but when i highlight all the files they only add up to 3.19gb even when i enable hidden files so im clueless as to what this could be.

Has anyone got any more suggestions? im still hoping i dont have to format the usb drive because i cant work out how to restore just that part and dont want to accidentally restore a backup for the whole phone and risk losing a lot of information

    Cheers

You could copy and paste your internal usb to your PC then format on the phone and copy back....?

    Thanks for the sugesstion.

I did what you said and at first it said my drive was only 2.2gb and it wouldnt let me transfer the files back but after unplugging the phone a few times it finally reverted back to normal and let me transfer the files back and i now have 8gb of free space so whatever was causing the problem must have gone.

    Cheers for the help
