    Question Went Down The Toilet

So the other morning my little boy comes into our room and says - the bad news is I dropped your phone down the toilet, good news is I got it out again.

I ripped out the battery, took the back off and have had it in a sealed bag of rice and a few bags of silica gel.

It doesn't appear to want to start, and when he did it, it was very warm around the UCP300 (I think this is the correct name, found a circuit layout and this looks like the part, just above the card slot)

Looking at the pins I can see it looks oxidised. Not sure if this is the problem or not.

The phone is insured so no worries about replacement. Problem is I want to get the info off it. I never used a memory card, so everything is stored on the phone's internal memory.

Can anyone suggest how to get it working temporary, or, if it is possible to get the information off it.

Just seen a jig that you can insert into the charging socket which will force the phone into download, not sure if that will help?

    Many thanks

You've done exactly as recommended, but the problem is that your phone was probably on when dropped. This would have caused a short circuit and damage. The download jig will be of little use if you can't power up the phone.
As you will probably have to give the insurance company a report, a trip to a local Samsung Service Agent may be your best course of action, and see if they can access the memory.
Don't suppose you made a Kies backup at some stage? Or ticked to back up to Google servers?

Thanks for the reply. No, wish I had backed it up. Not sure about back up to Google Servers though, can I find this out anywhere?

Sorry, not that I know of.
But your new phone will pick up the link through your Gmail address.

Replacement phone arrived today. Obviously I didn't back it up to Google lol.

BUT, it has come with Gingerbread, I had ICS on the other phone, but it tended to make it lock on occasion. What do people recommend, stay with Gingerbread, or go ICS again

Not much wrong with 2.3.4. ICS has some (small) improvements but many will say it's a detrimental step back. Personally I would go for ICS but that's just me. It all depends on what you use your phone for really......
Make sure you factory reset before and after the update (if you do it) to prevent lock ups and conflicts......

Thanks for the reply, I've read to do a reset afterwards, but not before, thanks for the heads up
