    Folders and Lock Screen query.

    Firstly:

Is it possible to have anything other than the clock on the Lockscreen, an you have a widget on there or something?

    and Secondly:

I'm not too sure if this is the right way to go about this but being a bit of a novice with respect to smart phones I'm open to other suggestions.

I'm off on holiday soon and want to take a few audiobooks with me. So what I thought was that I create a Folder on my Home screen called Holiday Books and stick in the audiobooks that I want to take with me.

Q1) How do I put the (MP3) audiobooks into this Holiday Books folder?

    &

Q2) How do I associate a particular music player with the audiobook files as I don't use the music player provided on the phone?

Is that achievable or is there a better way to achieve what I would like.

I do have a 32GB micro SD card also inserted in the phone if that helps.

    Thanks

The first thing to choose is your ebook reader, and this link may help.
    www.squidoo.com/top-5-android-ebook-apps
The books are downloaded via the app and can be stored on your sd card.
Regarding the lock screen apps, the standard launcher does not give an option, but changing to another launcher from the Play Store may.
Take a look at Go launcher or Nova.

Essentially audio books are just a music file so I would:

Connect my phone to PC and transfer any files using USB mode (Not Samsung Kies mode)
I would create a folder on the internal sdcard (phone) or external sdcard (memory card) and create a folder called 'Audio Book'. Obviously put the audio book files in the folder.
The Music Player will automatically pick up the files so you can use the music player to play them, just press album or folder tab to find the books. All music players should pick up the MP3 files, if you're using a 3rd party player then they should have the option to select where music files are searched for...if not they will appear in an album called 'Audio Books'

I don't think you can add actual files to your homescreen, I also don't think you can add shortcuts to music files either. My understanding is that only contacts, bookmarks, messages (all through widgets) can be added to the homescreen...anyhting else is not allowed.

Edit: While I'm at it I would also use MP3Tag to attach a picture of the book cover to the relative mp3 file, like album covers for albums etc. ***You will need to edit the Tag info and rename the album field to Audio book.***

Not entirely what you were looking for but hope it helps.

Ok, then try one of these audio book apps. Not really required as Tufftoad has indicated, but makes the process a little simpler.

Concerning the underlined above. When I select Menu on the Homescreen then Add I have the option of Folders. So I'm just wondering what can you do with these Folders in terms of what can you put into them?

Generally what you have on your homescreen can be added to the folder by dragging and dropping. I'm guessing there's also limitations on moving widgets to folders, as the idea of a widget is to be on the homescreen.

It's possible there's a 3rd party app on Google Play that may allow shortcuts to files, maybe a file manager that has the widget included; or a 3rd party homescreen launcher?

Edit: Even some of the apps that Greenman suggested may have widgets that allow you to add books (files) to the homescreen.

It certainly does beg the question as to what is the purpose/point of having a Folder anywhere yet alone on the Homescreen.

The purpose of folders is to group apps in one place. So for example you can have a News folder and it would have all your news apps inside.
Think your best option is to install an app from the Play Store. This can then be put on your home screen for easy access to your audio books.

Not really, I say that as you can easily access the files by clicking on My Files app then clicking one more time on sdcard/external sdcard. Generally most people do not need to access files all the time and most media items can be shared from their associated player/viewer app.

If you want the folder to appear near the top of any file manager then just title it '00Audio Books', the zeros before the title will ensure that appears first.
