How to Fix Samsung Galaxy S III Battery Life Issues

At the end of June, we heard that some Samsung Galaxy S III owners were having battery life issues with their new device. And while Samsung has promised to roll out an update to address that problem, some owners are still suffering. Fortunately, there might be an easy fix out there.

We have received a tip from a reader who says that he has found an easy solution for the Galaxy S III battery drain issues that have been plaguing owners of the international device since May and June.

The solution is extremely easy and does not require a software update or a root, though, we must caution. What works for some people often doesn’t work for others.

First, owners will want to head into Settings. From there, go to Wi-Fi. Then, owners will want to select advanced. Once in there, change “Connect to Wi-Fi while asleep” to Never.

Our tipster says that this method has significantly improved his battery life. Before trying this, his phone only lasted less than 8 hours on a charge.

Keep in mind, this fix may not work for everyone but it hopefully will help to improve the poor battery life that some Galaxy S III owners have been seeing.

This method should fix some battery life issues on the Galaxy S III.
Here is what Samsung Galaxy S III owners should try in an effort to try and shore up any battery life issues that may be hurting the experience on the device.

This is just turning wifi off when screen is off right? I use juice defender to effectively do the same thing but it comes back on to sync every 15 minutes. That's quite important for me, this is a smart phone after all, don't want to downgrade it to iPhone behaviour

Why would you want WiFi to stay on during sleep? You aren't going to get incoming calls via WiFi so you won't miss anything.

For me I need Wifi to stay on so that when my mate msg's me in the morning it notifies me, otherwise wifi will only kick in when I wake the phone.

Personally I never have the data signal running while the wifi is on, so if wifi sleeps the data signal never kicks in.

That's an interesting change between the S2 & S3 (or is it 4.04 related)? On the S2, when you turn wifi on the data turns off automatically, but with the S3 you have to toggle the data off manually.......

Hi Thanks for this, I'm sorry if this is a really dumb question, but will i still get push notifications with the data connection while the phone is in sleep mode? or will i need to " wake the phone" for notifications ?

Yes, your data will run all the time so it doesn't matter what your phone is doing.

If you have the 'sync' option on then you will always be notified when soemthing is sent to your phone, msg's, updates, emails etc.

Wifi can do this, when the phone is asleep you can choose to cut the wifi and run the data signal, when the phone wakes it switches back. Obviously your phone will use data when it's sleeping so be careful.

I tried this, but all of these Battery 101s don't really help when you're always on 3G and play games, watch movies and listen to music. Thinking about getting a 4600mAh battery but need advice. Help me out here: http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/show...Anyone-ordered
