Kies not recognising galaxy s ii at software upgrade

I´ve been through every avenue possible but Kies still does not recognise my Galaxy S II when I try to upgrade the software.

Checking the device manager in Win7 shows Galaxy usb device installed and functioning normally.

Kies just runs and runs and in the end shows message device not found?

Another problem is that during this installation process the firmware upgrade has encountered an issue and no longer reset
back to the previous installation. I therefore only have two options on my mobile presently,the other one beeing the Odin mode
showing the Android icon and ´Downloading´ i.e. ready to receive the data.

I have the latest .net Framework installed as well as the latest Kies software.

Any other way to make the connection between Odin and my phone?

Any suggestions?

Do you have the USB Debugging ticked or unticked in the settings on your device?

Download Odin ver 1.85 and the firmware you want from www.sammobile.com. Put phone in download mode. Open Odin and connect phone with data cable. Put the downloaded firmware file into the PDA section and press start. Forget Kies as you don't need it if using Odin.

I don't think he can get the phone to connect to the PC

Hi all.

Problem resolved, AT LAST!!

Deleting Kies and using only Odin,I loaded up the previous v. 4.0.3 which connected right away and installed itself
on my Galaxy S II set in Odin receive mood.

Must have been a fault or incompatibility with the v. 4.0.4 I found on the Internet.

Tell me when a safe v. 4.0.4 is available.

Also running Samsung Kies and Odin at the same time is not recommended
