The only cure for Android OS bug is to flash the same/new firmware again. I had this problem on the SGS 1 and flashed the same firmware, after doing so the problem had gone.

It's a software related problem not a hardware problem.

Edit: If you have the SGS 2 or above flashing branded firmware will not effect your warranty or the binary counter.

Sorry I'm still a little new to all this, do you mean reinstall the ICS update again? Or are you saying I need to track down a the EL29 Gingerbread version that originally came with the phone and install that?

I would flash any firmware that confides to the following points:

    1. The model of phone you have
    2. The Network you are locked to
    3. The region/country you are in

I think you already have ICS installed so I would recommend flashing the same or newer firmware. Don't think going back to Android 2.* would be a wise move.

Edit: Not sure if you updated via Samsung Kies or Odin, I would use Odin and flash the firmware myself.

The OS will always be high if the phone is idle for long periods, You are looking at a % of battery use, not physical battery drain. Excessive drain may be caused by apps running/updating when phone idles. After a reset all the settings will be reset to default so you will need to change back to your preferred settings and also I suggest using system power saving mode. Reflashing may help but I'm not convinced this is your issue.....

The thing with the Android OS bug is that it's an anomaly, no one is quite sure what causes it. I recently flashed a girl's phone at work who also had the 'bug'. Her Andoid OS was running between 15 - 30 % all the time (now below 10%), after updating to ICS it was gone and the battery lasted a little longer. In the 2 years I've used android it's always the cell standby that has the higher percentage which is more understandable.

For me flashing new/same firmware has worked twice...then again I'm used to preparing the phone when updating firmware, especially between major version changes. It may not work for everyone but nothing ever does

That's the problem, I guess. My stats show my OS at 32% but that's after 3 days and 20% battery remaining - I wouldn't call that excessive battery use....?

Lol...at least you don't have the reported cell standby problem I guess that one hasn't escalated to 'bug' status yet.

Not bad, are you branded firmware or have removed apps?
