SOLVED: After ICS Update Android OS Killing Battery!

EDIT: Please see my other thread for solutions to this issue.

I've been noticing my battery draining pretty fast. I've had the phone just over a month and days when I'm at work all day, maybe do some surfing on my lunch or breaks, but nothing to excessive and my battery is down to like 35% when I get home. Before I was going under Settings->Battery and I noticed "Screen" was the number one offender for draining my battery. Which makes sense, it's a bright display and powering it takes a lot of juice. I don't know if it's coincidence or not, however, it's when I started noticing it after installing ICS. Now "Android OS" has replaced it at the top, by a LOT. Here is a list of my top five, any ideas?
    • Android OS: 58%
    • Screen: 18%
    • Cell Standby: 10%
    • Phone Idle: 7%
    • Android System: 2%

What you are experiencing is very common when an ICS update from Gingerbread is carried out WITHOUT a factory reset and clear cache (preferably before and after ICS update).
The reason appears to be that without a factory reset and clear cache, remnants of the Gingerbread firmware cause problems as you are experiencing.
Unless you use Odin to update, you cannot go back to Gingerbread and start again, so I would advise going into Recovery Menu by:
Press and hold Volume Up + Home Button + Power button until in the blue writing of the Recovery Screen.
Here you can Clear Cache and Factory reset.

WARNING: Factory reset will remove your apps, data and contacts (your photo's will be ok)
So connect to Kies and carry out a back up.
Also in settings, make sure you tick Backup and Reset (this is to Google servers and does a good job after the reset in getting your phone back.

After that run your phone until it switches itself off.
Charge with phone off to 100%
Run until phone turns itself off once more and fully charge as before.
This will reset your charging chip so that you get a full charge.

Greenman I've always trusted your advice, but I'd be remiss if I didn't double check. If I go through all this trouble, you're 100% sure it will fix the issue?

I have noticed numerable problems since updating to ICS. Currently, here are the ones I can think of:
    1) Battery getting sucked down rapidly, from Android OS and apparently from the screen thinking it is on when it isn't; If I look under the battery life graph, it often says my phone is awake for massive, uninterrupted periods of time, even though it's generally not. Something is keeping it awake, it seems.
    2) Word suggestion fails quite often on Swype, even though I have never de-selected it as an option.
    3) My WiFi will occasionally stop detecting networks. I have to turn off Wifi and turn it back on for it to find networks, otherwise it gets stuck perpetually scanning for them.

I am debating trying some kind of factory reset to recover my battery life and perhaps fix some of the other issues, but I'm sick of losing all my apps/app data and re-installing everything.

Oh one more horribly obnoxious thing: I can no longer set landscape-style backgrounds, because it no longer will allow for the home screens to scroll across a long image. My only option is tall, single-frame cuts of a picture. What the heck?

I tried it late Saturday night. It helped a lot at. Slow drain on Sunday and now back to being dead in 4 hours. Ugh.

I got the same result, I formatted my SD card, then did a factory reset on my phone. I loaded up my apps, and everything looked great. If you I went into the battery break down screen display was back at the top and the Android OS was two rungs below. I was SO happy! Imagine my chagrin I woke up this morning to a full charge. Didn't make one phone call, just checked a couple emails, and an HOUR into my day my battery is at 76%!! I look back at the battery break down, and there's "Android OS" sitting at the top taking draining double the battery juice as the screen display. I mean this almost makes ICS useless, what good is this great cell phone if you have to be tethered to a power cord. WTF!! Point being, don't bother resetting your phone, it DOES NOT permanently help. I don't know what happened between last night and today, but hopefully some dev person will read this and it will help them pinpoint the issue.
