sms and email tone

Is there a way I can make them both different tones. I dont like hearing the same tone for both of them.

Generally each app can set a tone but it depends on which app you are using....which you haven't stated.

Edit: Gmail or the Email app....or even a 3rd party app which you downloaded?

I am using the gmail app that came on the phone

Open the gmail app:

Menu button > Settings > select the email account > Ringtone & Vibrate > Ringtone
