$25 for a battery is about the right price but I would worry about rubbing it with anything for $45 If you type *#1234# into your dialler and let me know what you get back I'll let you know if ICS will mess the phone up or not... Did the "guy in store" check your current configuration or just "guess" ??
Your updates will not come from your provider as the phone is not network locked but I would need to check what is available for your region / phone config. I doubt it is a software issue though........

Thank you so much for answering Rich. I really appreciate it.

when i type that in my dialer, I see the following:
    pda: i9100jpkg2
    phone: i9100xxkf1
    csc:i9100ojpkg1
build info: mon jul 4 16:48:03 kst 2011 (yes I know this is irrelevant but I posted it anyway ).

He said he would open it up and clean it with rubbing alcohol, and check the electricity voltage or something like that coming from my usb when plugged in, to see if there was an issue, and if there was he would fix it. You think I should pass on this? I thought a battery would be more expensive. Thanks for clearing that up.

Anyways, if you still think i should use odin, could you give me any info on how to do it, as I have never heard of it. I'm on a macbook pro btw, will I need to use windows? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just not very good with new technology. I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

Your phone is coded as a Middle East phone, but there is no ICS directly for "Middle East". There is, however, ICS for Iraq, UAE, Egypt and Saudi, so any of those should be OK. As for using Odin on a Mac, well unfortunately I don't know as I use a PC. Someone else will be able to confirm, or not if it will work for you (hopefully). I'll not go into any more detail on Odin untill we get this confirmed. All said though, I do believe it is a hardware issue and I would be replacing the "charge port ribbon cable" as I believe this to be your problem, either faulty or water damaged.

Okay, thank you again. Hopefully someone will confirm. If not, I can just use my brother's laptop which runs on windows 7.

By the ribbon cable, are you referring to the cable that plugs into my laptop from my phone? I thought it was the usb port in my phone that would be faulty.

The ribbon cable is inside your phone and carries the charge port with connections to the motherboard.

Sure thing. I will do so when I have time as I am very busy with school/work these next few days. I went to the cnet link and in the comments section, there seems to be several users who report that version was buggy for them, and they reverted back to 2.3.3/2.3.4. Will ICS it be updated as it is now July or will it still be that buggy version? Again, sorry for all the questions. I just want to be sure before I do it. Thanks.

If your not sure about get odin working on your mac (If it can), then try Heimdall. It's like an open source version of odin.

The original video that I posted was a pre release Beta version of ICS. I posted it so you could get a feel for the process. If you download your ICS firmware from www.sammobile.com you will have the official firmware which runs fine.
