    Samsung Galaxy S II keeps hanging up via the backlight button on right hand side.

    Anyone had this problem and found a solution and can help me,thinking a format of my phone is in order but I would like some advice first before I take drastic action as I have alot of music and precious family photos on my phone etc that i would need to copy over to laptop,thanks xx

    Not had the problem but before resetting.

    Try taking battery out for 10 to 15 mins and then put back in.

    As for pictures etc, are you able to connect to a laptop or pc...or even have a memory card in the phone? If so just transfer camera taken pics from the DCIM folder to the pc or memory card.

    Have you updated to ICS without carrying out a Factory Reset and Clear cache from Recovery Menu?
    You can do it now, but go to Settings and tick the box to Backup and reset.
    Your photo's will be untouched, but Contacts could be lost unless synced via Gmail or similar.
    If possible backup with Kies as well.

    What do you mean by "hanging up". If you are referring to ending calls then check the settings to see if you have enabled "Lock button to end calls"

    In Settings > Accessibility or Call > Call answering/ending you can opt for the Power button to end calls, but not the back button.
    Are you on stock firmware and launcher?

    The OP said "backlight button on right hand side", hence my assumption we are actually referring to the lock button and the reason why calls are being ended, ie as per design intent......
