    Blocking all data transfer?

    Hi,

I tried searching all over the internet(and of course, on the phone itself first), but I can't seem to find a way to block the device from using data transfers?

I am changing my service provider and this phone is from them, but until my current contract goes out, I have to use the previous SIM and it doesn't have unlimited data transfer. It's like 4 euros per 10 megabytes or something, so I REALLY don't want the phone using data on it's own.

Right now, it's pretty much just like an iTouch or something, it cannot function as a phone, I can only keep it on if it's in "Flight Mode". At first I thought being near a WiFi(like at home) I can let it be, but no.. If I don't touch the phone for a while, it switches off the WiFi on it's own and starts using data transfers over my service provider, costing me money every time it does that. So, I have to turn it off. It's not a cellphone..

How the hell can this function at all without unlimited data transfers? Also, in about 2 weeks I will go to Hungary and stay there for quite a while. If I can't block this crap, then I can't even take it with me. I need a PHONE with me and data transfers from Hungary would give me a 200000000€ phonebill.

So, please.. Anyone? I want to keep the phone, but if I can't stop it from doing this, it's just an unusable piece of plastic.
(Note: Data roaming is off, it doesn't care. Use only 2G networks is ticked, it doesn't care, still uses 3g for data. In location and security use wireless networks and use GPS satellites are both ticked off, it does not care, does it anyway. In accounts and sync background data and auto-sync are turned off, does NOT care.. uses data transfers anyway...)

With roaming off you will not have data traffic, but only if you are roaming, ie are in an area with another network than the standard network which is specified in your SIM.
When roaming you'll see an R in the top status bar.

Disabling data traffic is easy, just delete the APN setting under network settings or use a program like APN droid to switch it on and off.

Yup, what tomtor said. Another thing you can do (I always do this just to be super safe while roaming) is to first delete the APN like tomtor said, and then create a fake APN. Just call it "fake" or "off" or whatever and enter some random settings, like APN name could be xhdfuhhfd, username and password something random... and so on. That way if something goes wrong and the phone tries to connect while roaming, it will try to use the fake APN and naturally won't be able to connect.

Kind of a stupid solution, I know... But it's what I like to do. This method hasn't failed me yet.

Ah, thanks. I did not think about the APN settings at all! I went ahead and got the APNdroid and it seems to be fine now. Thanks guys, I hoped it would be something simple like this
