text messages - where?

where are text/mms messages stored in the android system?
can you access them by plugging your phone into your pc and locating the directory?
i do not use shitty KIES so don't say anything about using that.

Agree about Kies
If you are looking to backup your sms, pop over to Play Store and install SMS backup. This backs up your messages to Gmail.
If you are looking at a Kies replacement take a look at Android sync manager for a wireless connection.

i am not looking to do either, i am looking to find where messages are stored within the phones file system.
my actual reason for this is i had a mms with several pics is a slide show which i could not save, the pics then stopped appearing in the sms/mms messages. So i want to find the messages in the file system and see if the photos are there and can be salvaged.
