Headset mic has terrible feedback interference when using handsfree

I have a problem when i use handsfree earphones, there is such bad distortion that people cannot hear me. It isnt the headset as i have tested another pair and it does the same and it works fine in my other phone. Im not sure if i did something in the service menu as i was trying to increase volume on my headset for music, but this resets with a soft reset so it cant be that. I recently upgraded to ICS and thought this would solve the problem but it hasent. I do not really want to do a hard reset as this will take ages to back everything up and put it all back to how it was!

I am also unable to access the Service Menu Audio setting now, nothing happens when selected, all the other options work, again i dont believe this is the problem.

Has anyone had this problem before and if so what is the solution. Thanks for your time and help.

Are you sure the service menu dabblings are restored by a soft reset, or does it simply reset your modifications??
I suspect that it may do and that the options are limited to a full re-flash, rather than a factory reset, as again I reckon your will reinstall your modifications.

May be wrong on that and a factory reset alone will suffice. With ICS this is not as bad as it used to be as in Settings you can opt to backup and reset via Google servers.

Im not 100% sure of this, but been reading the forums and thats what everyone is saying, these setting do not stay perminent. I do not want to do a hard reset and find out that the problem is still there and its more of a hardware issue then the software. Its really annoying how the Audio settings in the Service menu does not work. I just want to see if there are any values that are out. I should have tried to solve it before the upgrade but thought that the new software would have sorted the setting out, as im sure samsung tweaked the audio setting to increase the volume of the headphones while listening to music. Thanks for your help.

Suppose the only way to check if a soft reset, resets the settings is to check before and after.
If you want original settings just say what you did (service code used) and menu, and I'll report back.

The thing is i dont think i touched the microphone setting on the headset, i would never have changed those setting. Whatever i did originally i dont think any of the setting changed, there was no volume increase in my headset. So whatever i did, nothing seemed to change, so thats why i dont think its anything to do with the Service menu setting. Thanks for your help.

Ok, a last thought would be to Clear data in your Bluetooth Share settings to see if a fresh connection will improve things.
You'll find it in Settings > Applications > All

Are you using the correct headset for the S2. The pin outs changed and the ground and mic are reversed on the S2 plug. This would bugger you up if using the wrong headset.....

You need to recalibrate your battery, but it sounds like a good enough excuse to get an S3 anyway
