How do I send it to samsung? I bought the phone from the carphone warehouse, can't I just take it to them and let them deal with it?

Yes, under uk Consumer Law your first stop is the supplier.
But have you tried a Factory reset to see if this will resolve the problem?

When mine went wrong I went straight to Samsung, didn't bother with the supplier.

Go to the Samsung website and register your phone with them if not already done. Here is the phone number 0330 SAMSUNG (7267864) When you call them they will tell you to take the phone to CPW for repair(Samsung use CPW for service and repairs) just say NO, you would rather send the phone to Samsung's own service centre, which is in Norwich.

You will also need a copy of your proof of purchase to send with the phone.

So, i was about to take my phone to the carphone warehouse this morning when my girlfriend suggested i try my phone because apparently the 02 network went down yesterday and could've been the reason why my phone went all crazy. I turned it on, and to my surprise the phone is working perfectly again. It looked for all the world the screen had gone, but obviously not. How can a network going down make the screen totally unresponsive with black lines through it and single bright coloured pixels dotted everywhere. Is it really possible for a sim to do that? I thought it was the hardware for sure.

Losing network is like taking out your sim card or using your phone in Flight mode. So the only function you should have lost is making phone calls/texts and receiving mobile data. It does not explain the symptoms you encountered.
Keep an eye on it, and keep fingers crossed.
