    Phone Shutting off randomly.

Having a bit of a problem with my phone, it just keeps shutting off randomly. I just came back from holiday and noticed it recently. It shuts off in random intervals, sometimes a couple of hours and sometimes 30 minutes or less. Anyone else experienced this problem? I doubt it has anything to do with the software as it was fine before i went on holiday, and now it keeps acting up. Thanks in advance.

It could be either and is usually more likely to be software.

Some of the easiest things to do would be:

Ensure the Power button is not stuck/getting stuck or has a sticky residue around it, spilled coke etc.
Turn off phone and take out battery, leave for 15 minutes then replace and turn on (for some reason this solves a fair few problems).

Also do you have a case on your SGS2 and if so what type?

I have the same problem. It drops calls and shuts down randomly. I have 2 cases for it - one gel case that protects the back and another like a book which is more sturdy for when I'm out and about. I did wonder if could be the case so stopped putting the gel on and only use the "book" case when I need to.
So far I have had no dropped calls and it's only powered off once (I could have inadvertently pressed the button). Early days but could the problem have been the case/s?

That's what I was thinking, if you case which covers the power button it may be causing trouble.

I'm having similar trouble. Mine often switches itself off at random intervals and when it does it starts to go really hot. I did notice this after it had come back from vodafone and they had upgraded the software (and plastered it with their branding). I too thought it may have been down to the case. I have a book style one to protect the front and back (as does my wife and her problem free phone), but the differences between the 2 is the front flap bit on mine is thicker.
I was thinking of putting my own none branded firmware ICS on but not sure if my warrenty would be then viod. I don't appear to be able to update it any more through kies since vodafone had their mitts on it.

Your recent update to ICS (via Vodafone) was probably carried out without a Factory Reset and Clear cache from the Recovery Menu (and is now up to date which is why there is nothing on Kies)
This can result in the problems you're having of random shutdowns and getting hot.
You can do this now, but go into Settings and look in Back up and Reset, and make sure you have these ticked.
You can also back up via Kies as an extra measure.

However, if you are thinking of installing an 'Open' ICS to get rid of your Vodafone crapware, then you need to do this:
    1. Unlock your phone - easiest is for Vodafone to give you a code???, but possible to do it free, but you would have to root and return your phone to gingerbread for the free app to work.
    2. Install Open firmware from sammobile.com
