So the oxidation of the salt is not a big issue?

Dry salt is an insulateor but in water solution is a conductor. Two metal contacts with a voltage between them, in a salt solution, will start to disolve by electrolysis as metal ions migrate from positive to negative leaving a trail of metalised salt in between. When dry this cam be a short circuit. If the voltage was removed quick enough you might have clean insulating salt there, if longer there may be a conductive short, if too long a contact pin may have dissolved away.

Hello. I used to work in double glazing factory. We used a product called desiccant. tiny absorbent balls that soak up moisture in windows. a few of the lads dropped there phones in baths and sinks and even toilets lol. all they did was put some desiccant in a bag and put the phone in with it and after a few hours the phone would work again. not sure where to get some on the high street but the gadget show did do some experiments and they showed a similar thing that you can buy but not sure where from. you could also try the little sachets you get in shoe boxes, same thing but in a gel form.
