If your battery was left in for some time then it could be too late.

If you've not taken a phone apart before then be warned it is tricky and easy to damage. You really need a workshop manual. I posted a link to one for my SGS1 and it may be similar.

    Jewellers screwdriver set
    Eyeglass (x7)
    Cotton buds
    IPA
Small brush ( electric shaver cleaning brush, or toothbrush may do)
Phone case opening tool (fingernails or plectrum sometimes suffice)

    Good luck.

Phew, at least you got the battery out. That will limit the damage. There's still a backup cell which stores charge for the real time clock etc. Hopefully that will discharge without too much damage. I hope it's recoverable. Have a look for what looks like a small button cell and check for corrosion across the seal with an eyeglass when you get it apart. Keep us posted.

Once it's dry there will be no further damage.

You could take it to a repair company and see if they will give you a quote for repair. They may charge a fee to have a look, or may charge a minimum fee and add more depending on what they need to replace. They will clean and replace things and will give you some guarantee. The last thing they would want is the phone failing soon after and the customer bringing it back under guarantee - they would lose money if that happened - so will trend to replace things if in doubt, to make a reliable repair but their bill may be expensive. Sound them out first and tell them that you took the battery out immediately to let then know it's worth trying to repair it.

If you've not had experience of repairing such electronic devices it may be a steep learning curve - but cheaper - if you don't damage it further in the attempt. If you do try, download a repair manual for correct disassembly methods.

You are naturally hoping the phone will work now it is dried. It might and if it is dry and stays dry, no further short circuits will occur but the phone may already have developed short circuits or it may still have trapped salt water to sort things out - if so, it's better for the phone to keep the power OFF until it is inspected and cleaned to prevent further damage. It is a risk you take. Good luck.
