    samsung S2 with sea water

    Hi All
My first post here!! My daughter took her s2 for a swim in the sea,!!! she got home and put the phone battery etc in rice, then a few hours later i stripped it down and cleaned it with electrical cleaner and a tooth brush left it apart to further dry out until next day.

now the phone powers up but the lock screen does not respond any ideas? is this the board or screen problem ?

    regards
    Paul

Does the rest of the phone respond, Camera, games, apps. If so could be software.

Apart from that I have no idea.

It's now time for that talk with your daughter. How sharks and piranha live close to land waiting for swimmers to come in. The jellyfish that want to have fun, octopuses that want a hug and dolphins who are getting ready to take over the world

Really sorry, there's not a lot we can tell you.
Keep it in rice, and replace rice after a few hours.
If possible remove back, but under no circumstances turn your phone on for at least 24 hours.
Other than that, my best advice is to look for your travel/home insurance as it's very likely a gonner.

It probably is dead as the water acts as a conductor and if phone is switched on when it went in the water, power crosses circuits and damages them.
Trouble is water damage would not be accepted under a warranty repair, so it's either a paid for repair or insurance claim.

You need to take the battery out straight away (immediately!) otherwise even with the phone switched off the phone is still partially powered and those areas can be destroyed by electrolysis - even the battery contacts can get eaten through. Putting your phone in rice may help dry it but the salt will still be left inside which can still cause problems later when in humid atmosphere or if condensation occurs etc.

The best thing is to immediately remove the battery and disassemble as much as possible (e.g. uSD and SIM out, covers etc.) then shake and suck out as much water as possible from every nook and cranny or hole (earpiece, USB, speaker, mic etc).

If it's been throughly soaked in sea water then it may even be a good idea to throughly rinse it in distilled water first to clear out the salt and then removing the water again as above.

Follow this by drying - warm air current overnight if you can't disassemble any further, but best is to take it apart completely (undo every connector) and properly clean and dry. IPA (Isopropryl alcohol) can be used with care on individual PCB assemblies and connectors ect.

My SGS has been swimming (search me and swimming) twice now and the second time was a dirty canal and survived.

The display area is very tricky to get into being am adhesive bonded sub assembly. If you have problems with the touch screen and everything else works them this may be the issue. Some further cleaning may be required but if it's too late,a new display.
