Question Odin3 not popping up - I get a message in Korean about ini

    HELP!
I am trying to root my SGSII. I downloaded Odin3 v.1.85 and clicked on the .exe file, but i get a pop up in Korean + the English letters ini. When I dismiss the pop-up the Odin3 window flashes on my desktop screen for a split second but won't stay up there permanently for me to finish rooting my phone.

What is causing this and how can I fix it? Is there another link to download Odin3 that doesn't have this issue?

    Thanks!

Are you launching from the downloaded and unzipped file?
If you move Odin to your desktop it won't work. You have to copy it to your desktop.

If that isn't the problem, could it be your antivirus is stopping it?

I originally downloaded the file directly to my desktop and then tried launching the .exe within the zip as well as unzipping the file to my desktop, but got the same Korean pop up. I suspended my Norton Anti Virus but that didn't help.
The Odin window flashes on the screen for a split second, but won't stay open.
What do you mean by "copying" to my desktop.

My phone is still connected to my PC and says Downloading....Do not turn off target!!
Can i disconnect without causing any damage to the phone? Is there some way to safely cancel this action? I have not uploaded anything to the phone yet since I am stuck with this Odin3 problem.

BTW Agree with RichH that the root method with link he has given is better.
No yellow triangle and no binary counter.
I would only say to download from the second link -http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Then scroll down list for samsung galaxy S2 and the 'touch' version 5.8.1.5

As long as you didn't start the process you can unplug it and reboot. You might need to pull the battery first though as it may not boot on first attempt.

Thanks, that worked. Now, if I can only solve the Odin3 issue....

That's no problem. it is the screen in Download mode.
    Just disconnect.
Then press power button to cancel download mode and restart phone.

Re: Odin, your Zipped file should have 3 components:
    1. the 'building bricks' with MFC - this is what you click on to start Odin (by right clicking you can send a shortcut to desktop)
    2. Odin 3 Configuration settings
    3. u1_02_20110310_emmc_Ext4.pit PIT file
These three have to be kept together, so click on (1) or its shortcut.
If not you will get a box with Korean writing

I don't have any of those files. I downloaded Odin3 v1.85 and when i click on the folder, I see the following files:
    1. Odin3 v1.85.exe
    2. Odin3.ini

When I highlight the first file and click Extract to Desktop, I get a "buiding block" icon named Odin3 v1.85.exe. I tried running it as Admnistrator (I am using Windows 7), but I still get that Odin3.ini Korean pop-up.

I do not see those other files you mentioned...
