    Memory Card

    Hi

Was looking to purchase a new memory card for use with my S3 but was looking to see what others have used and how successful they have found them?

I was looking at a class 10 sandisk / samsung 32GB card but a colleague of mine has shown me sandisk ones that have been made specifically for android but are a bit pricey.

Class 10 is a fast card for rapid file transfer and good for video/gaming to and from the sd card. For everyday file transfer where speed is not important you can go down to Class 4 without any obvious problems - and much cheaper.
Bought a 32GB Class 4 SanDisk from Amazon (Low price memory) for £11.82 and is fine.

I think 4Gb is going to be small for most people, especially those with an S3. Think the standard for most people is 16Gb internal so increasing by 4Gb is really not worth it.

As Greenman pointed out, you can pick up 32Gb cards for very cheap from a lot of places.

I had a 16GB class 4 Sandisk in my S1 and the video would sometimes conk out whilst recording to the card. I changed it to a 32GB class 10 Lexar several months ago, which now sits in my S3. No problems whatsoever.

    For your £500 device, get a £22 32GB class 10.
I could be wrong, I usually am. (Because it's only a phone)

It is important to recognise that the Galaxy S3 DOES NOT allow you to download applications to your SD Card (Memory Card) or to move your applications to the SD Card after they have been installed. Since this seriously limits what you can save to the SD Card (basically simple stuff such as Emails, Contacts etc) then a large SD Card is unlikely to be needed.

I hope that this information is useful.

Its down to the app code if it can be moved to SD card or not, it's nothing to do with the phone....

    Hi RichH,

    Many thanks for your reply.

The app code does indeed either allow or disallow a move to the SD Card. However, even if the app code explains that it can be transferred to the SD Card, the Galaxy S3 phone will not allow that to happen. Many people have complained about this issue and are hoping to find a solution.

I hope that I am wrong and sincerely hope that you will respond by explaining how it can be done.

Remember reading something similar myself, but can't put my finger on the article.
Would be worth installing App2SD (Get the Sam Lu version) and testing out as it identifies which apps can be moved and where to.
    EDIT:
Just had a look at the app and it says this:
    Galaxy S3 is not supported:
    * Galaxy S3 configures the SD card as a secondary external storage. This is configured by Samsung. Nothing developers can do about this. Please contact Samsung for details.
