S2 battery problems - is mine the right one?

My S2 died completely a couple of weeks ago and went into a shop for repair (under warranty). They said it was the battery (which suprises me because when I took the phone in the guy put the batter from his S2 into it and it still wouldn't turn on) and say they have replaced it.

However, I used to get 1.5-2 days useage on a charge but now get around 10hrs maximum. Over night last night when on standby my battery went from 100p/c to 49p/c.

    Is this normal?!

You have to cycle the battery through 2 complete charge /discharge cycles to optimise the charging chip.
With phone off charge to 100 %.
Now use phone until it turns itself off.
Repeat, then use phone as you normally do.

    From 'empty' that's about right.
It's unlikely you have the wrong battery, but if you are concerned take it out and check the details.
It's easy to search Amazon for a genuine Samsung replacement, and see if your battery has the same specification.

My battery does appear to be the right one.

So, last night I went to bed with my battery fully charged. Seven hours later I woke up and my battery was down to 46p/c (that was with no apps or anything running, no wifi or GPS etc. - just on standby). Is that normal? This would suggest I'd get about 11hrs in standby which is slightly short of Samsung's published 620hrs.

I really don't believe you'll get anywhere near 620 hrs but something definitely not right with your consumption. As a rule, I drop 1-2% overnight. To drain as much as you are it sounds almost like the screen is on all the time.... What does your battery stats tell you is using the power?

I was having heavy battery use after updating to ICS. Tried everything but to no avail. In the end I returned to Gingerbread for a while and then back to ICS, but with a factory reset and Clear cache both before and after flashing.
Next, charged the battery to 100 % while switched off, and ran until it turned itself off. Repeated that cycle and now much improved.
