Main Camera Problem

Hi,

In the past few months I've been having problems with artifacts appearing on photos taken with the main (back) camera on my Galaxy SII (black).

I took a few photos this weekend and the problem has gotten worse than ever, see the example below.

It appears to occur when there's a high contrast between light and dark areas, although not all the time.



Any idea whether this is a hardware or a software problem? If software, any suggestions as to how I can fix it, as it's rather irritating :-)

Any changes - new firmware, apps that could point to a conflict?
Could be hardware, but worth trying a reflash of the firmware.

No new apps that I can think of, I have just upgraded to the new android (ICS?) within the past two weeks but the problem was also present before then (perhaps not as pronounced?).

Here's a picture taken two months ago, the first time I spotted the problem, where it's nowhere near as obvious (artifact in the sky again).



The issue seems to come and go, and to change a lot in severity. Here's a couple of images taken today in the same position as the one from the first post, which don't seem to have the same problem. The darker one was taken focussed at the sky, the lighter one focussed at the road.

Is there a tutorial somewhere for reflashing the firmware? I'll look at doing that tonight.

Yes, the best one I can suggest is via a Cnet link, but the actual firmware you need is to be found at sammobile.com.
Don't know if you did it before, but when installing ICS you should have carried out a factory reset and clear cache from Recovery Mode.

I recently encountered the exact same problem with my S2. Did resetting the firmware help/solve the problem? or alternative fixes?
