    SIII randomly crashing

I've noticed over the last couple of weeks, I've had a few moments where the phone seems to crash and freeze up. It's not happening all the time, maybe once every two or three days.

It always happens when the screen is off and the phone is locked (in my pocket, on my desk or on charge). I'm not 100% but it seems to be when the phone is being left unused for a longer period of time. I try to wake the phone when I come to use it and pressing either the home button or the lock button does nothing. The only way to restart the phone is to hold the lock button and do the manual reboot.

From the battery stats, I can see that the phone is still using power when it crashes, though it doesn't appear to be turned on and monitoring the battery. I get a huge step in the graph where the percentage drops and I can usually work out when the phone has crashed by knowing when I unplugged it in the morning and how long the battery says the phone has been on for.

I'm wondering if there's any sort of app I can use as a sort of diagnostic tool, to see what if anything is causing this. If it's an app that's causing a problem I can easily get rid of it and try again.

Hello RJ, I've also had random reboots for no reason along with a few other things. I wasn't happy with the way my phone first started up, it preloaded all my S1 apps on to the S3, so am going to factory reset.

I've had 2 or three reboots this month but am not sure what it could relate to.

It is most likely an app that is causing it. What do you have installed? Maybe its not compatible with 4.04? What about power saving apps?

This isn't a reboot as such, it's more of a freeze that I then have to reboot to solve. I'm probably going to root and go for a custom ROM at the weekend so I will see if that makes any difference.

That's what I was thinking, though I've got probably 60-ish apps installed other than the stock ones, so I wouldn't know where to start looking. I don't tend to use any power saving apps or anything else like that. I have a couple that run in the background like Lightflow and Comodo Antivirus, I might have to try removing them temporarily if the rooting doesn't make a difference.

If it's Lightflow Pro then there's a chance that you do not need the option ticked in the Accessibiblty settings, it will still work. Haven't used any of the others.

I seem to remember an app that would monitor what was happening to find your culprit.

It was a long time ago.

Unless I dreamt it, of course. Which is possible.

    I'll go dig...
I could be wrong, I usually am. (Because it's only a phone)

    Hey James,
Are you still having this problem? I get exactly the same thing.
Here is a list of the apps I have installed. Perhaps you could have a look to see if there are any that we both have so we can narrow down the possible suspects.
