How to edit email notifications on ICS update?

I recently "upgraded" (whether it is "up" has yet to be seen) to ICS. I have had no luck at all hunting down a few settings, most importantly my email notification settings. I am not a super heavy email user, I just use the default email app for a few accounts. It did the trick before.

Now I can't find where I can change how often it checks my email, and more importantly whether it makes noise when I get an email. This is driving me nuts. I have a stupid email noise leftover from when I was waiting for something important but I can't turn it off now.

When I am in the email app I have a Settings option but there is no alert settings. Under my main phone settings there is nothing for my email under the sound option. It has a different sound than my notifications and text messages.

I am probably just missing something obvious. Anyone know where the settings are?

    Thanks

    If your using Gmail.

open app > menu > settings > 'Pick the email account' > Ringtone & vibrate > Ringtone

If using the samsung email app. Don't know as don't use it.

I have the same issue. I have a SGS IIX that I just updated to ICS and now I am getting constant audible notifications for e-mails received and it is super annoying. This is for the standard e-mail app (i.e. for exchange accounts, etc). I can't find any notification settings in the application or anywhere to change the audible tone to silent. I tried the solution you posted and it doesn't work. There is no ringtone and vibrate choice.

I can find these settings in the SMS and G-Mail apps, but not in the e-mail app.
Is there anyway to turn this off other than turning the phone on Silent?
Any help is appreciated as this is very annoying.

Maybe it's different in the IIX version but that is how you do it on a GT-i9100. You can import other accounts through Gmail so maybe you could do it that way ?

I guess I could do that, but then all of my mail would go through the Gmail app instead of the e-mail app. Seems odd that the native e-mail app has this issue. It was easy to set this up in Android 2.3 so it sucks that you can't do the same in ICS.

I can, so its not an ICS issue !! It's unique, I guess to the IIx (whatever that is) ??
