Problem transferring music files to my S3

Hi everyone, I am new to this thread. Just got my S3 last week. I seem to be having some problem transferring some of my music files to my S3. I turned on USB debugging and use Win Explorer (OS is Win7 64bit) to transfer my mp3 files from my PC to the microSD card (Sandisk Ultra C10 64GB) in my S3. From Explorer, I can see that the files get copied over without errors. But when I go into my S3 music player, some of the songs are missing. If I go to MyFiles, I can see 2 entries for each of the missing song: One with the extension renamed to mp3.dup0 of the same size as the original file and another with the extension renamed to mp3p3 (0 kb). If I try to do a rename, it actually show the correct name. Very strange...

Why have you turned on USB debugging? Just wondered.

Are you happy the card is a 64GB, have you filled it to max without problems?

Have you tried copying your music using a card reader?

Are you dragging/dropping with Windows Explorer or another program?

Thanks. I turned USB Debugging on cos I read somewhere to turn it on for mass transfer of files although I can still achieve file transfer with USB Debugging turned off.

So far, I have only fill up to about 30GB, will try filling it to the max.

I have always use Win Explorer to do my transfers. And no, have not tried using a card reader.

Hi everyone - nice to know I'm not the only one having this trouble!
When I transfer files to my 64Gb microSD card all seems to go smoothly, but occasionally ONE track from a folder will fail to appear in the music player. Always a different number track, there's no obvious pattern, and I can never ever get that track to appear in the music player (even though it shows up in MyFiles).
I've tried deleting the "missing" file and re-copying it back; deleting the whole folder and copying it back, even re-ripping the album and copying it back - no use.
The ONLY way to fix this is to copy the album onto the internal SD card - then it works perfectly. I've currently got four albums I've had to move from the external SD card to the internal one.
VERY strange.

Did you try rebooting after copying over, just thinking maybe the media needs to be scanned again. I used to use a widget to do this sometimes on my s2. I think poweramp does this itself so you could try that.

yeah, I tried rebooting up - tried rescanning with Poweramp - I've since started using PlayerPro instead, and it's still the same. Even tried opening up the Android Music Player and using that - but still the same.
I'm wondering if it's a problem with my microSD card - is it possible to have some bad sectors on an SD card? Hmm, but then, I've deleted the offending files and folders and then put them back - they wouldn't use the exact same positions on the card, would they???

You could always try formatting the card from within the phone....

I know it's not a lot of help but I had this problem on my SII with a 32GB card. I'll have to rescan my brains to find the solution - I know there was one but seem to remember it was rather laborious.

OK, scan complete

When it happened to me the problem turned out to stem from the initial transfer to my PC (I was ripping CDs). Whilst the files played OK on my PC there must have been something wrong with them.

The solution was to delete the files on the PC, re-rip the CDs and then re-transfer them to my mobile.
