anti virus

hi , installed avast anti virus, not sure if that was a good idea concerned about amount of data download , on updates , still getting used to phone will these downloads be charged to my phone , or is it covered on my wireless home network. not fully understanding how all this works yet if i am recieving data through my home wireless, which is VM, does my 250mb allowance still be available as long as im not using( data 3g ) thanks for any assistance as ita all new to me.

If you are connected to wifi it does not come out of your network data allowance.

Have a look in the notification area - the bar at the top. If you have a fan, that's wireless (using your VM connection) and doesn't use your 250MB allowance. If you see an H or 3g, that's your 250MB data allowance.

I'd recommend using wireless for downloads and app updates as you'll quickly eat into your allowance.

If you want to safeguard going over your 250MB data allowance, you can install a data monitor that you can set to stop your data connection if your 250MB allowance is reached - I use 3G Watchdog, which is free from Google Play (the app market).

There is also a data useage app built into ICS which will tell you what apps have used what data and allow you to set limits for warning you that you are getting close to your allowance and also turn off data when you reach your allowance. I'd recommend you keep an eye on your data useage at first as it is easy to use 250mb without realising it....

thanks for the 3g watchdog tip, ive just installed it, and working ok. thats peace of mind, hopefully less worry now , not had contract before and with only 250mb was a bit worried, thanks again( will post again end of month to let you read my progress) sincerely sam sung
