    New phone...completely stuck!

I've just got a galaxy s2 phone and am having difficulty setting it up!
    Two main questions
    1. How can I tell the phone has connected to my home wifi and is not just accessing the internet through my phone plan data usage?
    2. How do I turn off the noise it makes when it starts up ?( I've somehow set it to make a loud noise from my text message list!)

    Thanks

When connected to wifi you will see a symbol in the top line of your screen which looks like a fan. It will be coloured depending on how strong your wifi signal is. The phone will also display a message, briefly, on screen saying "Wifi connected". You do have to set it up though - it doesn't happen automatically.
The start up sound is set in the software so you cannot change it, however, if you go to settings >sounds and turn down "system sounds" it will be quieter.....

I assume that a WiFi connection will override the phone data usage then as a priority ?

Mrs T one way is to manually check that the WiFi is activated and phone data switched off. If it helps I'm new to android phones and found an app called Llama from Google play which may be useful. It allows you to set up various areas and works off the mobile/cell towers in a given area, from there you can set up various actions based on the area you are in ( work, home, relative's house etc ). So for example when I leave home then my profile is set so that Wifi is switched off, phone data is turned on, likewise when I get home phone data is tuned off and Wifi enabled. There are many other options of things to be done including changes based on times and days of the week and so on. It's a free app and can be a simple or as complicated as you wish, I believe the wifi turn/off etc could be done via Juice Defender ( paid version ) as well but I let others more familiar confirm that.

If you are connected to WiFi, you can't be connected to 3G/HSDPA at the same time unless you are using your phone as a WiFi hotspot so yeah, WiFi will "take priority" as you put it

This looks very useful. Giving it a try now and love the attitude of the Dev.

    Thanks for the heads-up!

EDIT: This app is amazing, so many options...

I could be wrong, I usually am. (Because it's only a phone)
