    Sorry to hear that.
    1. Usual problem is phone not recognised by computer and getting the drivers from Kies can be a problem so download and install from here:
    http://uploaded.to/file/xeczx9xt

    2. Now in sammobile the most recent UK/Ireland firmware is:GT-I9000 - United Kingdom / Ireland
    PDA: I9000XXJW4
    CSC: I9000OXAJW5
    Version: 2.3.6
    Date: 2012-04-05
Regions: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom
    From here:
    http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?p...0&r=-1#modelsa

Download to computer and unzip to get a single file

    3. Start Odin and select PDA then open the unzipped file to get a TAR file in the PDA box.

    4. Put phone in download mode and connect with USB and MAKE SURE it is recognised by Odin with a yellow box under ID:COM

    5.You're ready to start.

If it doesn't go through the flash and hangs for more than 10 minutes you are going to have to flash the PIT file as well, but you need a different source for that file, so come back.

PS If you can't get into download mode it can be forced using a USB jig like this:

When I launch ODIN, I get an IMAGE PATH error, this is for v 4.03. So, when I try to add the PDA file I get another error, 'invalid image type'.

Any ideas on this? Do I have the wrong version of ODIN?

    Thanks again

Can't remember exactly as I dumped Win7 and went back to XP but something like right click on the Odin icon and select run as and choose compatibility mode and select XP SP3 mode from the dropdown list....

If you want to wipe your data you can go with Hard reset or Hard formatting. There are very easy steps for that.
