    Wi-Fi connection following root

    Hi all,

Think I've got myself into a mess here.

I finally got round to rooting my phone last night to hopefully get rid of my "MAPServicesamsung has unfortunately stopped" problem that I and a few others have had since going from GB to ICS.

Downloaded insecure kernal CF-Root-SGS2_XW_ODD_KE8-v4.0-CWM4.tar and phone got suck on yellow triange during reboot so turned off and wouldn't turn on again, just the battery indicator showing as the USB was still plugged in. Saw others have had the same problem and the way to overcome it was to load CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.tar and sure enough this worked (still had yellow triangle to start with) and then rooted with S2Root_1.5.1_Release (1).

Now my wi-fi will not connect. It recognises it but keeps scrolling between authenticating, Obtaining IP address and Saved, secured with WPA2 and sometimes Avoided poor internet connection (even though signal is showing as excellent). I've done allsorts since; deleted it and scanned back in, changed from DHCP to static and back, rebooted the router, taken the battery out, cleared cache but no joy,

I assume the best thing to do is factory data reset. I want to back it up first and titanium back up says there's an error and to verify the ROM is rooted and included BusyBox. Downloaded BusyBox okay via 3G but it will not install as it says I haven't a good internet connection (even though I've been using the internet for other things without any problem today).

Did I say I've got myself into a mess?!!!!!

    Any help much appreciated.

Seems to stem from your rooting.
There is another way to root that avoids the Triangle problem and I'll find the link.
In the meantime I reckon a factory reset is the next thing - it is recommended by many on this forum when going from Gingerbread to ICS to clear out any residual gingerbread settings.
This may resolve your problem, but will post the alternative root here just in case.

Starting with the root issue. Have you installed Superuser and is it reporting root is OK?

Thanks Greenman; I went to the XDA link and downloaded and saved a SU-3zip and also recovery-clockwork-4 zip to external SD card. When I open CWM zip in recovery mode it will let me toggle down one to the install zip from SD card but when I press the home button it simply goes back to the top line (reboot system now). I can't get further than the second line to the advanced section to see if external SD card is there; it just keeps flicking back to the top line. Eventually I pressed reboot system now and I get the same menu except this time when I press install zip in tiny writing at the bottom of the screen it says EsCan't open /casche/recovery/log.

As I wasn't getting anywhere with it I rebooted

    Thanks for your quick reply

Hi RichH. No I didn't need to. Having rooted last night its app automatically appreared along with CWM.

Pressing the Superuser app simply says "No apps in list". If I try to open the CWM app it says it needs SU access to function and asks if SU is installed and make sure CWM isn't blocked. If I go into SU preferences there's no where to block CWM that I can see.

When I used the S2 root last night the info on my PC claimed it was successful.

Thank you also for for quick reply

Sounds like root was not sucessful to me. Re your issue with CWM recovery, it is a touch recovery, so you don't select with vol keys etc you literally touch the screen....

Thanks RichH. I hadn't realised that; everyother time I've used recovery mode I've had to use the volume key (I'm learning slowly, very slowly!).

Using touch screen on CMW it's not possible to open any zip files

You've installed the wrong cwm file.
Go for the second option via this link:

Samsung GalaxyS2 5.8.1.5 ....... choose this Touch file

Thanks Greenman. Some success! That's got Mobile ODIN and CWM apps opening up with SU access.

If I try to open the SU icon it freezes for 10 or so seconds and than tells me Unfortunately Superuser has stopped (similar to my MAPServicesamsung has stopped problem I'm told rooting will solve).

Titanium backup still will not let me in questioning if the phone is rooted and have I've got BusyBox installed. BusyBox keeps telling me failed as I need to make sure I've a good internet connection (and I have got a good internet connection or I wouldn't have been able to download the files that I have today).

Can I still use the backup on Kies? I read somewhere that Kies and Odin don't like each other. If I can then I'll be able to factory reset without using titanium.

    Thanks again for your help

Yes you can use Odin and Kies but don't have Odin open when you're using Kies.
Superuser was updated recently, make sure you have the latest version.
