Don't have Android Market? Don't worry here is your solution!

    greetings everyone,

As you may all know not all countries support the Android market, for example, in UAE and Saudi Arabia the market is blocked as well as in some European countries. Likewise, in my situation, when I bought my SGS it didn't have android market on the phone and the ONLY way to add a market is to root your phone or flash your firmware to a newer firmware such as M2 that includes the market app as a native app BUT, in doing so you will:

1- lose your native language (in my case I lost the Arabic language completely when i flashed my phone)

2- you may void your warranty

so what if I wanted the market but at the same time wanted to keep the original stock firmware? well worry no more cause i've brought with me the ultimate solution!

consider it as a gift and souvenir from my trip to all the forum members

NOTE: please back up your DATA because this process will hard reset your phone! you have been WARNED!

step 1: go to Menu-->settings-->Date and Time--> and check/choose 'use 24-hour format' option

step 2: Then go to phone keypad and type *#272*XXXX# P.S. The 'XXXX' here are not letters but any 4 number digits that tells you your current time. For example, if your clock shows 12:30 PM then enter *#272*1230# and so on.

Step 3: As soon as you enter the code you will be greeted with a settings, simply scroll down and choose 'XSG' ---> then install market

step 4: when market installation is completed the phone will automatically hard-reset itself wiping all your existing DATA on the process.

step 5: reboot your phone and congratulation you now have Android market on your stock firmware!

step 6: enjoy and start downloading apps from the market

FROYO UPDATE: For Froyo users please refer to this method since the method mentioned above works only on Eclair firmware, the 2nd method posted below have been tested on Froyo and is confirmed that it works.

I would like to thank Big Boss and the original founder for bringing this method so there you go guys

    works like a charm....
I would like to thank the original founder of this brilliant idea and want to thank all the forum members for your helpful support without you my phone would not be enjoyable as it is now... Thank You

SNAK3ATER, how would you use this solution on Samsung Corby and Samsung Monte since they are both featured phones and none of them has Android market?

well yes you are right! but you should know what does this code does sorry i didn't explain it on my first post:

when you enter *#272*XXXX# you are presented with a setting that CHANGES your phones operating region, in other words if your phone doesn't have a market due to restricted region such as GCC region (Ex. UAE,Saudi Arabia) changing the settings to XSG (which is an universal region I guess) will unlock the android market in our phone, while for other samsung phones mentioned such as corby and mounte, it will enable them to download apps and games from samsung kies which were restricted or only available to certain region.

also forgot to mention that this method works also on Samsung wave too, but keep in mind that I've ONLY tested this method on SGS. The other phone models mentioned were reported to work with this method from different users so I can't guarantee you that it will work with other samsung models.

In the end i'm just the messenger so don't shoot me dude

I'm glad that this method worked for you abood hope that you enjoy downloading from android marketplace

As for turning off edge/3G please follow the steps provided here:

    go to menu-->settings-->wireless and network-->mobile network-->network mode-->choose GSM only--> Done!

    hope that helps you out

P.S. also uncheck the option ''data roaming''.... if that didn't work out for you try downloading an app called apndroid or 3g ON/OFF to turn off 3g manually

I have a few questions about this:

    1. I wanted to know what exactly gets erased on a hard reset. Will I lose the android OS and any other apps that came with the phone?

    2. will this void my warranty?

    3. is there a possibilty that I will brick my phone?

SNAK3ATER I wanted to ask you if you were able to get Android Market on your SGS as I can see you are in Dubai and I am also in the UAE. If so, I would really appreciate your help.

    Thanks
