    Post Go SMS Pro problem

Can anyone help or advise on this - probably something very basic but can't see where myself.
I've installed Go SMS Pro on my SG2 4.0.3 handset. All seems to have installed ok and have set up the default and an individual setting for a test number. In both cases the correct icons and message info comes up but no notification sound in either case ( so test function says it is working ok ). I checked this using the test notification facility and also by sending a text. Doesn't make any difference whether I use a selection from system ringtone or music.

At present can't get any notifications via the inbuilt message apps. Did have this problem when I first installed the Go SMS app so uninstalled and re-installed again but problem still there.

Anyone had a similar issue and can advise please?

Did you go into GoSms and press Menu then Settings?
The first box has to be ticked for New message notification.

yes I did check that the new message notification was set. All very confusing this, so I deleted and re-installed the app, went through the following steps
    1. under basic new message selection ticked
    2. notification settings, enable notifications ticked
    3. default settings - picked an con and selected a ringtone ( call it tone 1 ), ticked notification bar privacy mode box - test notification works ok both sound and display
    4. from advanced then selected individual settings, added a contact from my list, picked an icon ( diff from default icon ), ticked ticked notification bar privacy mode box , select ringtone and picked silent - test notification then gives me correct display but instead of silence tone 1 played.

here's the rub, then went back to notifications and run test for the default and then had silence instead of tone 1....... so looks like the tones have swopped around.
So that has now confused me no end !

Just a thought, when I first had the phone I did upgrade it via Kies to ICS though have to say I haven't noticed any issues up til now. Would it be worth doing a factory reset and then re-loading SMS Go again? Also is it worth doing a phone restart ( as in power off/on ) after installing any apps as a matter of course as well? As a lot of PC programs require a system restart to complete installation I wondered if the same applies to androids.

It's only necessary to reboot if you are installing or changing any system apps, otherwise the way android works is as independant programmes rather than fully integrated ones.
Regarding a factory reset, it is advisable to do so after updating but if you've no other issues is quite a big disturbance to you....

ok well I do have contacts and pics backed up anyway and the only two working apps installed are Juice defender and sense analog clock widget, so as I'm at an early stage of owning the phone there's not a huge amount to disturb. Just seems odd that looking around online then I haven't seen that many people having an issue with Go SMS, so either I'm doing something stupid ( likely) or the app is clashing with the existimg message for some reason ( less likely ). I even tried Ringo which allows customising txt message tones but that didn't work either - so don't believe the apps are the probelm.

I can't advise on Go SMS as I don'y use it, but it sounds like you have nothing to lose from doing a reset....

Well went ahead and did the factory reset which wasn't a problem. Got phone back to basic set up and confimed things worked ok generally. Then re-installed Go and all now seems to work ok as expected - very bizarre indeed !
So does seem to bear out the idea of doing a factory reset after upgrading to ICS - even when things seem to work ok after said upgrade !

two things I did find during this, which weren't show stoppers, but I noticed. Firstly after the reset I added my gmail account again to the phone as a matter of course. When trying to re-install Juice and Go from the google play site it showed that that 'no android devices associated with this account ' and so wouldn't let me install from there. I did then install them via the google play app on my phone ok. Since then still hasn't 'registered' this on the web page ?

Secondly I understood the factory reset cleared all data etc out but a couple of pics and my ringotone sounds I'd added previously weren't wiped and were still on the phone after - very odd but handy.

Thanks for the suggestions and help offered guys - much appreciated !

It doesn't clear all data, media items on your phone will remain there unless you format the internal USB storage. Apps, passwords, settings and contacts will be deleted but music, photos etc should stay. The only pictures that might get deleted would be Camera pictures sitting in the DCIM folder.
