Worth keeping an eye on

I've posted a couple of threads on here re keeping an eye on your data use (i.e. how do you do it / what eats up the data etc). I can give an update that I finally managed to access my on line account with Vodafone today and one of the things that it does show is your data usage each day (with a breakdown of it) - albeit that their is a time delay that it will only show up to approx 2 or 3 days previously. Anyway, I was concerned re how quick data is used and it turns out quite rightly so!!!! I only got my phone on Weds evening and spent the evening setting it up, personalising it etc plus I surfed for approx 30 mins (NB I didn't download anything, view youtube, run any apps). Well I still managed to use 20MB that evening just setting the phone up!! That doesn't make sense (NB there is another post on here somewhere from someone saying that their girlfriend's phone - on Orange - is eating data for no reason). I've been down to the Vodafone store today re this and they've looked everything up on system and said no prob and everything set up correct and fine!! Needless to say I'll be keeping a very close eye on my vodafone account data usage log and I would therefore recommend all newbies that haven't had their first bill yet do likewise.

I used to have a Nokia E90 and the maximum traffic I could achieve was 20 MB per month. With Samsung Galaxy S I achieve 20 MB per day !!!! I am not exactly sure why !

I have installed 3G Watchdog to keep on eye on my traffic and the results are consistent with what Vodafone is charging me. This is a great app !

The question still remains: where is this traffic coming from ?!?

Dial 44555 from your Vodafone handset, choose option 1 then hangup. You'll get a text through with all your usage

10GB?!? Wow. What are you doing on your phone to get so much?! I get "unlimited" but fair usage = 1GB. How stupid is that. I hate fair usage allowances here in UK.

Re 10GB, I've just checked my Vodafone data usage account now and well, let's just say that as far as they are concerned I'll probably have used 10GB by around next Wednesday!!!!!! Someone somewhere must have a lot of downloads (nope, I don't use WiFi). Am rapidly getting VERY unimpressed with the Galaxy S.

Marky, I really don't think its the phone. I'm not using anywhere near the amount you're using. I'd get back in touch with your carrier or even Samsung and see if they can shed some light on it. You're carrier should be able to break it down into exactly where, when and what the data downloaded was.


Snake thats crazy, $100 a month.... Is that US $? Is about £65 a month! Nearly double what I'm on lol

Yep JSG10 that's exactly what I've got planned - I'm not going to open the web / send e-mails for 2 clear days on the phone and then afterwards check the data usage for those days and when it comes back saying that I've downloaded 25% of the internet over those 2 days I'll hand the phone back and exchange it for a brick.

Don't think it's just the SGS. A friend of mine racked up $93 in overages setting up her HTC Aria. Geez. Your data plans are high. I pay $39 for truly unlimited data (ie: no limits) plus text.
