It seems to make a lot of sense to encrypt the phone and SD card to protect data/passwords etc if the phone is lost. I can't find any discussion on the pros and cons of encrypting if any. Any thoughts before I give it a go?

There's not much to discuss on the subject.
If you are concerned that information on your phone could be wrongly used in the event of it been lost/stolen, then password protect the information - just don't forget the password
I suppose I was wanting to know if encrypting has caused any issues like slower performance or data corruption.
