I can't connect to tv via usb to view photo's

To see the phones folder structure like any other external HDD or flash drive should not be a big ask. There is a good reason why modern tv's have a usb port.

Anyway I have solved my own problem it seems you have to set the phone to usb mass storage mode before connecting to tv to view video's, photo's and music via the tv's built in media player.
