Angry constant start up loop...... brick ?

A friend of mine just brought me his SGS to look at it, it's in a constant start up loop, gets to the "s" then back to playing the music "s" for a few secs then start up music again
Its a stock Uk o2 he's not really into messing with his phone and as far as I know it was on ginger bread updated recently with Kies, thats as good as it gets for info
First thing I did was, into recovery mode, clear cache and reset to factory, this made no difference
    Got into download mode
I had a copy of JVO that I knew worked when I had a SGS so flashed it with Odin and it was the same, tried it with re partition ticked and JVO bootloader and still the same.
Got darkys 10.2 and flashed that instead, it got to darkys start up but froze
I also flashed the dbdata.rfs still the same
When I do a reboot using recovery mode I get an error "cannot mount /data"

    Any ideas

Hello, I'm only responding since there's been no other replies.

You've pretty much covered the basics in regards to resetting and flashing etc. The only thing I could think of would be to make sure that the firmware you use to flash the phone as all three files. Does JVO have this?

If the guy didn't really update his phone much then trying an older firmware may/could/might work. I think the jump from an older firmware to a newer firmware may have caused some trouble.

Really scraping the barrel here for ideas. Is it worth dropping into a Samsung service Centre (CPW)?

Try turning the phone off, then putting it on charge for a few hours. Retry

Had something like this happen to me a while ago, could be the same.

Also remove the sd card and sim before you retry.

Firmware i used was 3 files all jvo. Phone was given to me without sim and sd card and i gave it a full charge before i did anything.
Grabbing an old froyo firmware sounds like its worth a try. I will have a go at that tonight. Anyone know how much Samsung would charge ?

I don't think Samsung would charge anything, I would explain that upgrading through Kies destroyed the phone.

Now in the hands of Samsung...... If I had known they have a 2 year guarantee I wouldn't have gone anywhere near it, but I did ask him first if it was under warranty before I attempted to flash it

Sounds like there was more going on under the hood then we thought, usually flashing new firmware resolves most problems.

Samsung should definitely be able to help but just becareful when you get your phone back that you're not on some bizarre firmware. There have been numerous reports of phones being returned with bugs etc.
