Dead S2 - battery fail while on downloading mode?

Hello infinite wisdom on this forum!

I'm new here, normally wouldn't post anything since I think I can find my own answers, but after digging through this forum I could not find anything that could bring my Samsung Galaxy II back to live, so here it goes..

Got this phone yesterday from a friend who recieved a new one, so I thought i was being smart by trying a hard reset to remove all his settings/history/etc.. (I know now i need a usb restore as well, but...) I switched it off, and used Vol Up + Home + Power and it entered the downloading screen and i said: "Yes, reset this thing" it started downloading (I think) so i put it aside.. but I think the battery was running low because when i checked back a couple minutes later everything was black, and has been since...

I tried removing battery, soft reset, hard reset & enter downloading mode again.. but no response. I don't even see a battery charging indicator light when putting it into it's socket (not sure if there even is one though). Just one sparkle of light was when i put it into the socket and pressed vol down, It showed a a 1sec icon of a battery charging and then an image of a empty battery with the yellow exclamation triangle.. but it has only done this one time..

Any help or tips to get this beauty of a thing back to life?

Pressing the Vol+ button will take you into recovery mode where you can wipe the phone. I think you're getting the recovery mode and download mode mixed up.

At worse you will have to buy a USB jig from the internet which will jump the phone into download mode, then you can flash new firmware.

How long did you remove the battery for? Try leaving the battery out for 10 minutes and then replace and try again. I would try charging the phone with the Mains plug charger and would leave it for a good 10 to 20 minutes.

I'd agree with TT. Pulling the battery for 10 mins then using mains charger usually brings these back to life, and yes, you were in recovery mode.

    Thx Tufftoad for your response,

I'm removing the battery and will try again.. See if i get this clear
Hold vol up + Hold home + 2/3sec power = recovery
hold vol down + hold home + 2/3 power = download

and I need to do the download?

Yeah I read something about the USB JIG see if i can find it somewhere near me..

Good luck with the USB jig, it's handy to have as I'm sure it can be used across various Galaxy handsets.

You only need to the download if your flashing new firmware, if your battery level is below 75% then it is not recommended to flash any firmware as it can cuase the same problems as you are having at the moment.

I'm on a mac, any experience with flashing with Heimdall or DoubleTwist? Is there a big difference or will they both do the trick?

I'm not aware that you can flash FW with Doubletwist? Heimdall or Odin would be my choice...
