manage phone contacts, this should be easy!

Anyone out there know how to mange contacts I have on view multiple contacts of the same number it indicates that they are saved to the sim / phone and google. I only want to see phone contacts. When I click on contacts and select the left soft key from the options I choose contacts to display this and then I select phone this then only show google and phone which has been my compromise but I still only really want the phone contacts (I use the sim as my backup) when I turn mobile off and on again I am back to square one. Any suggestions hints or tips most welcome.

Sync all your contacts to google, (then you have a backup), delete everything contact wise from phone. Edit contacts on your PC in your google account, then re sync.....

That's exactly what I did.
The S2, as other androids, works best when using the Google links.

Ok daft question I have gone to contacts, selected merge with google, then gone to my googlemail - where do I find all my phone contacts in googelmail? Also got lots of g's by all my contacts now. Do not really use my gamail but will do if this works. thanks

You click on "Contacts" in Googlemail
You don't have to use Gmail, just use the data base of contacts for syncing with your phone.

The idea of syncing to your Gmail is to ensure you have a backup, so doesn't really matter that you don't use it.
Any additional contacts you put on your phone will sync to your Gmail account and vice versa - although in your case the latter will not apply.
So you have done what RichH suggested and to confirm you have the 'g' next to your contact.
Job done.

Yes thanks to both i have now synced is it ok now to delete the sim contacts as still showing both sim and gmails in contacts. Thanks for your help. Pluto

If you delete from Gmail on your PC it will delete them off the phone too unless you turn off autosync with Google contacts in the sync settings. No harm in just leaving them on Google - you will always have a live backup just in case.....

You can delete sim contacts, but no need to.
In your stock Contacts press Menu and you have a list of options.
One of them is 'contacts to display'
Select your Gmail address and sim contacts will disappear.... but still on your sim card.

Hi thanks to all I have sorted my contacts out I have just found this fab little app on the google play called Hive locker it allows you to create fancy lock screen, take a look let me know what you think.
